Dental emergencies are terrifying and nerve wracking, especially when you’ve chipped or broken a tooth. However, even though it is scary, the best thing you can do is stay calm. It’s also important to do all you can to improve the situation. If you’re not sure how to do so, our Vela Dental Centers Southside team is more than happy to help! Please do the following things:

– Save the pieces: It’s important to save as many pieces of your tooth as possible. That way, your dentist can restore your tooth structure. Rinse your mouth with warm saltwater and clean the broken pieces if possible.

-Control the bleeding: Try to stop the bleeding by applying a piece of gauze pad to the injured area for about 10 minutes or until the bleeding subsides.

-Reduce swelling: Do your best to reduce the swelling by icing outside the area with an ice pack. This will also reduce the pain and give you some comfort.

-Visit your dentist: See your dentist as soon as possible and bring the broken pieces of your tooth with you when you come in for your emergency appointment.

If you save the pieces of your tooth, control the bleeding, reduce the swelling, and visit your dentist in Corpus Christi, Texas, you are on the right track toward restoring your oral health.
